Weekly Wrap Up: Internship Week 6

The past few weeks have been filled with lots and lots of planning. Summer weddings are over, so now we are finalizing the details for weddings in the fall, and in serious planning mode for all of the Spring weddings. Katrina has lots of Spring clients, so planning mode is in full force. This is something that I thoroughly enjoy. I love working on each wedding, knowing that they will all be completely different. We are planning weddings on all ends of the spectrum. There is so much more that goes into planning than most people realize. Just deciding the theme is the first step, and from then on, there is so much to pick; from design and detail to cakes and plates. Hopefully, we can get all of the details pinned down on these weddings soon, and start working on the logistics of everything.

Also this past week, we had a photo shoot with Rachel Fesko Photography, the Mint Museum, Lily Greenthumbs, the Ritz-Carlton, The Summerhouse and Party Reflections. The table was covered with pinks and oranges with a modern twist. As always, the Mint was the perfect location (even for a fake wedding)! I always love being there. The HUGE flower arrangement that stood in the center of the table was to die for! I was so excited to take home some of the other little bouquets. Of course, my favorite part was the paper. I have a weird obsession with invitations, place cards, menus, etc. They did such an awesome job with the design, and it fit perfectly with our theme. The models were so wonderful and made the photo shoot look better than it ever could have. I can’t wait to see the photos!!

And to top of a fantastic week, we also accompanied some clients to cake tastings! Need I say more? Wedding cake is something that I am finding myself craving on a regular basis, so this really nipped it in the bud. We visited Wow Factor Cakes and Cake Lady Jill. Both of them had delicious cake–can’t go wrong here!

Weekly Wrap Up: Internship Week 5

This past week has been full of new things! Last Friday we made it through the 105-degree weather, and made sure Cassie + Matt weren’t sweating over anything! It was a beautiful and entertaining wedding at the Mint Museum Uptown. The gray and yellow was gorgeous. The details were impeccable from a lemonade bar at the ceremony, a thumbprint tree, family photos, and so much more. I just love seeing all of the details pulled together. Their wedding was filled with a wonderful crowd, which was full of energy. It was definitely a night to remember.

We also attended many meetings these past two weeks. I met photographers, such as Critsey Rowe and Project Life Photography, the fabulous Sara Shelor at Party Reflections, and a few possible new brides! Vendor meetings are always interesting because you get to see how each of them goes about business differently. I have learned a lot more from vendors than I ever thought I would.

One event that is coming up is the opening party for Lily Greenthumb’s new studio! This party has been really great to be apart of the planning process because it’s all of the vendors working together and helping each other out. It is going to be a great night to be working, networking and enjoying ourselves all at the same time!

Katrina has recently booked a lot of weddings for the 2013-year. They are all great women and they are all going to have beautiful weddings! I wish I were going to be in Charlotte during their wedding season to see all of these weddings! I can’t wait for pictures!!

And at the end of this week we had an “Inspiration Day”. We spent the day coming up with inspiration boards for all of the new clients! I spent many hours on the internet looking up bouquets, table settings and bridesmaid’s dresses. Who said Pinterest couldn’t be used for work? I wish I would still be working for Katrina when these weddings come around! They are going to be stunning!!

We are more than half way through summer, and working with Katrina has been so much fun. I have learned so much and I am sad that it is going to end! Not only has she taught me so much about the industry, but she has also become a great friend and mentor! She is so fun to be around and always gives me great advice! I was worried about having an internship and babysitting all the time this summer, but Katrina has made work something fun and I am going to be so sad when it’s over! So here’s to my last month in Charlotte- let’s hope it’s a great one!

Weekly Wrap Up: Internship Week 4

The past few weeks were filled with wedding craze, but this week Katrina and I took a little break from wedding work.  Katrina is styling a photoshoot for a new client that makes and sells rum cakes! So, this week we ran around finding all kinds of props and accessories for the shoot. We took a trip to Pottery Barn and the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall and found tons of kinck knacks that will go great with the theme! Pictures soon!!

Another thing I worked on this week was making custom timelines for come+together. Lots of people have seen the time lines on Pinterest and other sites, but Katrina needed one that was really detailed and personal. These timelines will come into good use with new brides. It will help Katrina and the bride know what they need to have done by certain dates. Which means less choas throughout the planning process! After lots of writing and playing around, I finally typed up the perfect timeline. Looking forward to this week with Katrina, and beating Florida again in Omaha- go cocks.

Weekly Wrap Up: Internship Week 3

This week’s wrap up is covering the past couple weeks! Katrina and I were very busy with the finishing details on Katie + Chris’ wedding! Most of the week before the wedding was spent running last minute errands, making table runners, final follow-ups with vendors and so much more. I was beyond excited for Saturday- the wedding day.

On Friday, I got to go to my first wedding dress fitting! It was Melanie’s final dress fitting before her wedding (which is this Saturday). She looked STUNNING! I loved being in Nitsa’s and seeing all of the beautiful gowns!

Katrina and I were lucky enough to have the event space open all day Friday. So after our trip to Nitsa’s we got to go into the Mint Museum early to set up some things so that Saturday morning wasn’t overwhelming. Wooden chandeliers were hung, tables and chairs were assembled, and the pipe and drape was swung. It was so exciting to see everything finally start coming together!

I began my Saturday morning listening to wedding songs on my way to the Mint. I was a little too excited. After hanging the last of the chandeliers, Katrina and I went to visit Katie while she was getting ready. It was so cute seeing how excited she was, as well as seeing all the glamorous bridesmaids with their hair and makeup done. Afterward, we stopped by to see the boys who were all relaxed and playing corn hole. Then the craziness began… Katrina was receiving calls from left and right about how to tie bow ties to limousine questions.

The day went on, and the 5th floor of the Mint Museum was becoming more romantic by the second. Seeing all of Katrina’s work finally being pieced together was amazing. The reception looked better than I could have ever imagined. The attention to detail was impeccable. I could not have being more pleased with the outcome of everything. Katie + Chris both seemed overjoyed with everything. Seeing how happy they were with the result just made all the work that was put into it, worth it.

After seeing Katie + Chris’ reaction, it reminded me why I want to go into this business. I love knowing that your work could make someone so excited. Katie was raving all night about how pleased she was. The fact that it was her wedding night and she came over to Katrina multiple times just to tell her how much she loved everything; that reassured me as to why I love this business. Customer satisfaction at its finest.

I cannot wait for my next wedding. This weekend I am missing out on Melanie + Joe’s wedding in the Outer Banks, but I am wishing Katrina the best of luck! I know it is going to be beautiful and I cannot wait to see pictures! Photo Credit: The Schultzes
