Our First Thanksgiving

Yesterday, we had our first Thanksgiving as Mr.+Mrs. We’ve spent past turkey days with each other before, but this was the first one we celebrated as us. It was also the first one in Charlotte, and the first one I’d ever cooked on my own–start to finish. I wasn’t nervous though, my mom (doctor, martha stewart and marry poppins rolled in to one amazing lady who, I can only dream to become…) has always taught me to cook side-by-side with her. I only had to make a few phone calls during the day (attention: the turkey juices do not start dripping immediately–only after 2.5-3 hours. don’t panic, your turkey won’t pull a Griswold Christmas Vacation and dry out on the table. Phew, thanks mom.).

In true form to my upbringing, holidays aren’t just about the food and the family, it’s also about the decor and making the meal a special one. Nice china, linens, silver, napkins, decor etc. So, naturally, I went to West Elm the day before and bought-out the place, because quite frankly…THIS HOLIDAY SNUCK UP ON ME!  Don’t fret, sometimes procrastinators do win, I got huge discounts on everything. The CFO was pleased. It was also the first opportunity we have had to use all of the wedding gifts we received, which excited me to no end. My English grandparents gave us our entire set of good silver…it was an ideal event to debut those beauties. We invited two of his coworkers who had no place to go, and had a great meal. Did I mention it was the most beautiful Fall day? Couldn’t have been more perfect. Much, much, much to be thankful for.

I fell in love with West Elm’s Thanksgiving-themed dishware. I couldn’t resist purchasing the whole set (I also get that from my mom).
The table all set. I used burlap as the base layer of the table, and multiple layers of linen napkins from West Elm as place mats. I bought pumpkin candles, faux gourds, paper mache pumpkins and matching gold and purple votives to tie in with the color scheme.
The CFO was a huge help, cleaning the turkey, helping make the stuffing, peeling the potatoes and carving the turkey (manly job).
The cake…ohh the cake…from the one and only The Wow Factor Cakes. So cute and so so yummy. Red velvet, of course!
I hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving. I’m doing my Black Friday shopping via the Internet, sitting on the couch. 🙂

Brynn + Palmer's Garden Gathering

It was a hot and muggy day. It rained and rained and rained. There was no plan B, no back up, no rain contingency. It had to stop. At the 11th hour it did stop, and we RUSHED to set this party up. In the end it all turned out wonderfully. The hostess, Kristen of Kristen Cone Interiors has an obvious eye for design. No stone was left unturned, no detail overlooked. The theme of the party was a “Garden Gathering” to honor the bride-to-be’s green thumb. The goal was to make the tables look like a garden was growing out of them. Check out the inspiration board HERE, it all came together perfectly! Thank you to all of the vendors and friends for helping make Brynn+Palmer’s engagement party a memorable one!

Ashley + Alex's Charleston Rehearsal Dinner

On November 4th, we rehearsed for my brother’s wedding. In the cold and wind, but it was still perfect. It was still perfect because of the people, the love and the excitement. And my brother’s God Daughter is possibly the cutest flower girl I’ve ever laid eyes on, with the perfect, perky personality to warm even the coldest of days.

The (cold) excited and proud parents of the bride and groom.  After a rather chilly rehearsal in the park, we hustled over to 82 Queen to get the party started. 82 Queen is an excellent local tradition in Charleston, with Southern food that is to die for (you literally may keel over after eating the amount of butter and cheese in the grits–so worth it). The best part of the rehearsal dinner, is it’s the Groom’s side of the family’s turn to add special touches to the wedding (don’t want to mess with the bride’s wedding day, so this is the perfect opportunity to put in the Groom’s family’s ideas and traditions). The hit of the dinner? No doubt the groom’s cake from Bakehouse–a replica of Ashley+Alex’s beloved dachshund, Heyward “the Upper West Side Wein”.
The bride definitely loved the cake.
Coozie designed by Erica from The Summerhouse. We surprised Ashley+Alex with these and matching napkins–enough for everyone on Wedding Day!
My lovely parents 🙂 Who do I look more alike?
Everyone had a place card leaf with custom calligraphy by Heidi at Kallosgraphia.
Custom M&Ms are always a treat, everyone had a bag attached to their leaf name card.
Some family pictures: My mom and brother, me and my grandmother who came all the way from Wisconsin–and is now a blonde like me!
The shrimp and grits topped with bacon–oh my. I coudn’t eat more than 5 bites it was so rich and delicious!
We displayed pictures of Ashley+Alex growing up separately, and one from the night they were engaged on the mantle.
Against their will, it was time to cut in to the cake.
Playing with Heyward’s tail. Love it!
The CFO and myself. I made him dress Southern for the occasion. He must really love me.
Now two married men, and brothers!
Can’t wait for the wedding day pictures to hit the blog coming up! Congrats again to my big brudderrr and his new wife Ashley! xoxo
